‘I can’t really say there is too much modern music that I’m blown away by at the moment’ – Duncan Sheik
The day Chris Moyles left the Radio 1 breakfast show was the day the music died in the Newman car. Our journey to work since has been a constant battle between Radio 1 and Radio 2. Dave hates Nick Grimshaw and I hate having to listen about Rupert and Seraphina’s school play. More often than not though it’s the music that wins and if it wasn’t for Radio 1 on the 8 minute car journey to work (12 minutes on a bad day) I wouldn’t hear any chart music at all.
Here’s what I’m liking from the current hit parade:
1. Jason Derulo – Want To Want Me
When I first heard it and started drumming my hands on the steering wheel I must admit a wave of horror came over me when it dawned on my it might be Beiber. Be still my worried mind when I find out it’s actually just good old Jason De-Loo-Roll, therefore perfectly acceptable to love!
2. Tinie Tempah – No Letting Go (featuring Jess Glynne)
Always loved Tinie, although not been a massive fan of his last couple of songs, he seems to be back on track with his new album. This is a poppier offering rather than some of his more grimy stuff but his and Jess Glynne’s voices work really well together!
3. Tove Lo – Talking Body
Now this is a funny one, because I wouldn’t never had said I ever liked this song, but the fact that I haven’t been able to stop singing it for the last fortnight means it’s stuck well and truly in the limbic system and I don’t think it’s going anywhere anytime soon!
4. Nick Jonas – Jealous
What’s that now? One of those promise ring toting Hanson 2.0’s? Actually releasing a good song?! Shut the front door!
5. AronChupa – I’m an Albatroaz
First heard on holiday in Iceland and was taken in by the sheer bonkersness of it all! It has got an amazing beat though and works really well on my running playlist
6. Years & Years – King
Been kicking around for a while (but technically still in the UK charts so it counts). Wasn’t keen when I first heard it, reminded me too much of Hellogoodbye Here In Your Arms from a few years back but it’s really grown on me and think it’s a great summer song!
7. Hozier – Take Me To Church
Again, been around a while and not at all summery but when I first heard it, it was one of those songs I wish I could hear for the first time again. Super emotional and the lyrics are gorgeous.
8. Iggy Azalea – Trouble (featuring Jennifer Hudson)
Iggy Azalea is a source of amazement to me, her rapping is amazing. I love the old school flavour of this, Jennifer Hudson’s voices fits with it perfectly, another one on the summer BBQ playlist!
9. Flo Rida – GDFR
Anything that makes me believe I’m in one of the Step Up movies when I dance to it will always be in my top ten!
10. Madonna – Bitch I’m Madonna
I’m so trendy this song hasn’t even been released yet and it’s already in my top 10 faves. Actually, it happens to be one of my favourites from Rebel Heart, it’s just a coincidence it’s the next single, either way, I love it!
