Review: Flying Gang brewery and tap room, Ponteland

It’s everyone’s holy grail to have an amazing local pub isn’t it? We’re lucky in that we have quit a few decent ones around us, only one good one you can walk to though and are praying that one day soon, one of the units in the trading estate near our house will house a little micro pub. Not to far away though, in neighbouring town Ponteland is a new micro brewery called Flying Gang, which has been open for just over a year now. And what’s even better? It has it’s own tap room

We’ve been up twice now as it’s about a half and hour cycle away and have loved it both times. It’s hidden away in Meadowfield Industrial Estate so it’s not somewhere you would just stumble across but in a way I really like that, because it feels like it’s a little secret oasis only you and a handful of other people know about.

It’s going a real laid back wholesome vibe and the inside area is warm and welcoming. It’s their outside space that’s the real USP though and thankfully both time we’ve been recently have been lovely sunny days, which feel few and far between in the North East of England. There’s plenty of space whether you want to be in the sun or outside and in the shade and because of the outside space, it’s completely child and dog friendly.

Flying Gang brew their own beer on the premises and have a vast array of ales on offer at really, really reasonable prices. I don’t mind the odd half of ale, especially if we go to somewhere new and I’m planning on reviewing it, I like to at least sample their main wares but it’s also useful to know they also serve wine, prosecco and spirits too should ale and lager not be your thing. The prosecco is a very reasonable £3 a glass too which it possibly the cheapest I’ve seen anywhere for a long time!

It’s also worth mentioning that they’re very prone to firing up the pizza oven so if you turn up peckish, they’ll more than likely have your covered. We haven’t eaten there (yet) but as a self confessed pizza monster, it’s only a matter of time before I sample one myself, all in the name of fair and balanced research of course!

I’m really excited to see the Flying Gang grow, because I think they’ve created something really special. I’m looking forward to visiting in winter and spending time in their cosy indoors area, even if it means cycling up in the rain!
